Durgesh Kanwal is a tabla artist and percussionist dedicated to sharing the richness and depth of Indian rhythm with audiences and students across the world. Rooted in the tradition of Indian classical music, his work reflects a deep respect for the heritage of tabla while embracing new creative possibilities through performance, collaboration, and education. Musical Journey

Durgesh Kanwal began his journey with tabla at an early age, developing a deep fascination with rhythm and the expressive power of percussion. Years of dedicated practice and training shaped his understanding of Indian classical music and the intricate rhythmic traditions of the tabla.

Over time, his musical path expanded beyond traditional performance, leading to collaborations with musicians from different cultures and musical backgrounds. These experiences have allowed him to explore how rhythm can serve as a universal language connecting diverse musical traditions.

Today, his work includes concerts, collaborative projects, studio recordings, and educational programs that bring Indian rhythmic traditions to audiences around the world.

Teaching & Education

Alongside performing, Durgesh is deeply passionate about teaching and sharing the knowledge of rhythm with students of all ages and backgrounds.

He offers structured tabla training that combines traditional learning methods with a modern educational approach. His teaching focuses not only on technique but also on developing musical sensitivity, listening skills, and creative rhythmic thinking.

Students learn:

• Fundamental tabla techniques
• Understanding of rhythmic cycles (taal)
• Traditional compositions such as kayda, rela, and tukda
• Accompaniment skills
• Improvisation and stage performance

Durgesh regularly conducts classes, workshops, and educational programs both online and in person.
